A “SECRET” LUXURY DINING EXPERIENCE AT THE COSMOPOLITAN OF LAS VEGAS
Strolling through the trendy Cosmopolitan on the Las Vegas Strip, one passes by an unassuming small pawn shop called Beauty & Essex. Filled with a curated collection of vintage watches, jewelry and more than twenty unique guitars – that are actually for sale – the shop is simply a whimsical façade for a “secret” restaurant that lies only a few feet away.
At the far corner is a simple door that opens to a luxurious bar and restaurant that is second to none. Guests experience a jaw-dropping dramatic transition as they journey from the retail space to discover an elegant entry that leads first to the Pearl Lounge. Here, a custom chandelier comprised of thousands of draped pearls radiate from the ceiling and down the walls to plush, tufted purple banquettes.
The stunning opulence then continues into the Mirror Bar, through a corridor featuring a 40-foot-long screened wall composed of framed vintage lockets that then leads guests to a trio of ornate dining rooms complete with custom finishes, metallic and jewel-toned hues and glamorous lighting that can only be deemed lavish, opulent and stunning.
Beauty & Essex, the restaurant and lounge from Chef Chris Santos and TAO Group, opened at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in May 2016. This is the second location of the New York City dining destination, which originated in 2010 and features a menu of multi-ethnic share plates.
The menu from Santos, a celebrity chef judge on The Food Network hit series “Chopped,” echoes the multi-ethnic signature dishes of the New York City location and features additional culinary offerings exclusive to Las Vegas.
Share plates include New York City favorites Tuna Poke Wonton Tacos, Thai Style Deep-Fried Shrimp, Oven Braised Chicken Meatballs and more. A creative selection of pasta, prime dry-aged meats, an award-winning burger and inventive desserts round out the menu, while aptly named libations such as the Emerald Gimlet and Beauty Elixir provide the ideal accompaniment to the meal.
The Rockwell Group-designed space spans 10,000 square feet, encompassing more than 230 seats for dining and another 90 seats in the bar and lounge. The restaurant explores jewels in all forms – from pearls, gemstones, and vintage jewelry boxes, to antique and heirloom pieces – all tucked away behind a simple pawn shop exterior.
